  • Cumbria Archives

    Cumbria Archives preserves the historical records of Cumbria, from the Middle Ages to the present day, across the record offices in Barrow, Carlisle, Kendal and Whitehaven. We are engaging local audiences with the county’s musical heritage by publishing articles in the archives’ newsletters.

  • The English Folk Dance and Song Society

    The English Folk Dance and Song Society champions the folk music and dance at the heart of England’s rich and diverse cultural landscape. EFDSS delivers programmes of learning and participation, including the National Youth Folk Ensemble which is working with tunes uncovered by our project in its February 2025 residential.

  • Hampshire Archives

    Hampshire Archives preserves archives relating to Hampshire, helping bring the county’s history to life. Our pilot project ‘Unlocking Hampshire’s Musical Heritage’ catalogued and digitised manuscripts of vernacular music from Hampshire Archives.

  • Hampshire Archives Trust

    Hampshire Archives Trust is a member-led charity that works to support and promote Hampshire's rich archival heritage. The Trust generously funded our pilot project ‘Unlocking Hampshire’s Musical Heritage’ including the cataloguing and digitisation of manuscripts of vernacular music.

  • IAML (UK & Irl)

    IAML (UK & Irl), the UK & Ireland branch of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres, represents professionals working in libraries and other institutions associated with music and music information provision. Our project is adding summary descriptions of music holdings in local archives to the Cecilia database run by IAML (UK & Irl).

  • Music Partnership North

    Music Partnership North provides instrumental teaching and music support activities in Newcastle schools. It is part of the North East Music Hub consortium, which works in every phase of education from early years to sixth form. We are working together to develop enriching musical activities and teaching materials for young people based on our findings in local archives.

  • Northumberland Archives

    Northumberland Archives preserves the records of England’s most northerly county. Among its large collection of musical sources are deposits from the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne, including Henry Atkinson’s tune-book from the 1690s and bagpipe music compilations from the 18th century. During the project, we will be sharing articles about these sources on Northumberland Archives’ blog and participating in their programme of public talks.

  • Répertoire International des Sources Musicales (RISM)

    Répertoire International des Sources Musicales (RISM) is an international collaborative programme that aims to comprehensively document musical sources worldwide. It runs the RISM database, accessible through the RISM Catalog and RISM Online, to which we are adding detailed catalogue records for musical sources discovered in local archives.

  • The RISM (UK) Trust

    The RISM (UK) Trust is a charity that guides the work of Répertoire International des Sources Musicales in the United Kingdom. Its Trustees are advising our project with their professional and subject expertise.

  • Surrey History Centre

    Surrey History Centre collects and preserves the records of Surrey’s past and present, documenting the story of the county and its people from the 12th to the 21st century. We are working together to develop public engagement activities based on Surrey’s musical heritage.
